Rufous Motmot

The Rufous Motmot ranges from southern Mexico through Central America and into northwestern South America. We found this beautiful bird at Kapari Lodge, where it sat motionless along a forest edge. Motmots scan the surroundings and then dart out to capture prey. Its wide range and distinctive racket-tipped tail make it one of the most recognizable motmots in the Neotropics.
