Long Point is a 40-kilometre sand spit stretching into Lake Erie, which creates a geographic funnel ideal for experiencing bird migration. In addition to the north shore of Lake Erie concentrating migrants travelling to or from their breeding territories, Long Point also boasts an incredible array of different habitats. These combine to produce an astonishing 400 potential species. We will visit locations where over 20 species of warblers are possible, as well as many other highly sought after migrants. A highlight of this trip is the opportunity to see some of these birds up close and personal at the Long Point Bird Observatory bird research station, where there are also washrooms for public use.
Running from April – May and September – November, this tour is very flexible and can be customized to your needs; just let me know what you’d like to see! With so many options and incredible biodiversity, this tour is one you can’t pass up.
Birds you may see: Eastern Whip-poor-will, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Virginia Rail, Sora, Common Gallinule, Forster’s Tern, American Bittern, Least Bittern, Red-headed Woodpecker, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Acadian Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Tufted Titmouse, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Yellow-breasted Chat, 25+ warbler species (including Cerulean, Prothonotary, Canada, Hooded, Golden-winged), Summer Tanager, Scarlet Tanager

Liam Thorne
Liam Thorne is a birder, naturalist and guide born and raised in Ontario, Canada. He has been birding since a toddler, where he became fascinated with common feeder birds and soon learned about the wonders of migration. Liam has worked for Birds Canada as a wildlife technician and has interpretive experience through work with Ontario Parks. He is now pursuing a career in conservation biology. Whether you are a seasoned birder looking to find new species, someone brand new to the hobby or anywhere in between, Liam can customize a tour to fit your needs for the best experience!
