Mountain Bluebird – Nevada State Bird

At Corn Creek Station, north of Las Vegas, a brilliant male Mountain Bluebird flashed through the winter sun. The male, hawking insects with quick, graceful dives. This oasis in the Mojave Desert, is part of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. This park draws more than 150 bird species each year thanks to its rare spring-fed wetlands. The Mountain Bluebird—Nevada’s state bird—thrives here in open desert and meadow edges. Unlike many songbirds, bluebirds can hover briefly in midair while spotting prey. This trait and the vivid blue color, adds to the charm for birders exploring Corn Creek’s quiet trails in winter. Have 10000 Bird Tours give you a personal tour.
