California Condor at Navajo Bridge, AZ

A California Condor soaring above Navajo Bridge is unforgettable especially for those first timers. Its wingspan reaches an impressive nine and a half feet making them the largest bird in North America. White patches under its wings shine brightly against the blue Arizona sky, making it the easy identifier vs Turkey Vultures. The condor glides on desert thermals with effortless grace, flapping very little. Visitors often see them circling directly above the bridge or on the structural sections of steel below. Each bird carries a numbered wing tag for monitoring and can be seen by the public here. Biologists use these tags to track the species’ recovery. Navajo Bridge offers one of the best viewing spots. Watching a condor here feels like witnessing living history. This endangered bird is reclaiming its place in North America’s skies.
