More Information & Itinerary

The Metro Vancouver area is an amazing destination for birding year round. The habitat diversity is immense, with mountains, mudflats, forests, coastlines, marshes, farmlands, city parks, oceans, rivers and lakes all within or close to the city. The resulting bird diversity is remarkable, and there are so many avian treasures for us to go and enjoy no matter where we explore. On the very best days at the right time of year, over 100 species in a day is a realistic goal, but birding in Vancouver is fantastic throughout all the  seasons.
Winter brings massive waterfowl and duck numbers, as well as a high density of wintering raptors. Spring brings our songbirds back, so flocks of warblers, flycatchers, thrushes, vireos, and swallows are regular, and everything is singing and looking their best in preparation for breeding season. Summer is a great time to find our local breeding birds, especially the tougher higher elevation birds once the snow melts on the local mountains, as well as the best time to find adorable nestlings and fledglings. Fall is the time when some of the craziest rarities appear, as well as some of the biggest mixed shorebird flocks. Sparrows, warblers, flycatchers, and other passerines fill the city parks and migration corridors as they all start to head south for the winter. So there is always something to look forward to birding in Vancouver!
I want to share this beautiful city and the birds within it with as many people as possible because it truly is a special place full of some amazing birds.
Whether you’re a beginner hoping to see a few of your first lifers and learn more about common birds, or a seasoned veteran coming here with the intent of picking up some tough-to-get targets, I can help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
