Woodpeckers

Woodpeckers are a diverse family of birds found worldwide, specialized for foraging for insects in trees. They are characterized by their strong bills, used for drilling into wood, and their long, sticky tongues, used for extracting insects. Many species have distinctive plumage patterns, often with black, white, and red markings. Woodpeckers nest in cavities they excavate in trees.
