Taiga Flycatcher in Sunset Park Vancouver, BC

Rare bird found, Taiga Flycatcher in Vancouver by Ethan Moon. The Taiga Flycatcher is a rare migratory bird from northern Eurasia with Old World flycatcher lineage. It breeds across eastern Russia, Siberia, and Mongolia in boreal taiga forests. In winter it migrates to South and Southeast Asia, including China, Thailand, and Vietnam. Breeding males show olive-brown upperparts with an orange-red throat wash. Females are duller with brown tones and subtle markings. Both sexes show a crisp white eye ring. A cool fact is the species can mimic other bird calls. This bird is extremely rare in North America with very few accepted records. These records are remarkable, including this one found at Sunset Park near Vancouver’s Aquatic Center. The discovery drew a large crowd of birders hoping for a brief glimpse. Hopefully the Taiga Flycatcher in Vancouver will stick and you can get some help finding him at 10000 Bird Tours.
