Limpkin in Laguna Coba, QR

On the outskirts of Coba Laguna, this Limpkin looked like it had just stepped out of nature’s spin cycle. It had its wings out, feathers askew, and probably questioning its life choices after a rainstorm. Native to Florida, the Caribbean, and much of Central and South America, Limpkins are specialists in one thing: apple snails. Their long, slightly kinked bills are basically the Swiss Army knives of snail extraction. They are very good at sliding neatly into shells to pop out the goods. Between their eccentric calls – equal parts rusty gate and drama queen – and their relentless hunting, they’re hard to ignore. Add some sun, and this bird will be back to its real passion: mugging snails like it’s a full-time job. Wanna see one of these unique waders and a pyramid? Check in with Eddy on the site and he will put you in front of a Limpkin at Laguna Coba.
