Yucatan Jay
While birding near Laguna Muyil with Eddy from Aracari Tours, we had a great sighting of a juvenile Yucatan Jay. It was perched quietly along a shaded forest trail. The bird already showed its deep blue wings and tail. Its body was still mostly dark, a sign of its young age. The yellow bill and legs stood out clearly, even in the soft light under the canopy. This Yucatan Jay stayed still just long enough for a good look and a photo. This species is one of several endemics to the Yucatán Peninsula. With Eddy’s help, we managed to find quite a few others on the same outing. The trails around Laguna Muyil were easy to explore. The nearby forest provided great habitat for a wide range of birds. It was a productive stop and a great way to experience the region’s biodiversity.
