This fully customizable half day tour will take you from the abundant shorebirds and gulls of the California coast to the bird-filled chaparral and riparian areas around birding around Ventura California. Depending on the time of year, this tour could result in over 100 species, even for a half day! The tour is catered to your bird requests. Do you want to chase migrating fall warblers? Or put in some time working on gull identification? Ventura has it all and there is no shortage of great birding spots to visit.

Bring your target bird list for Ventura County and we’ll plan a way to see as many of them as possible. General target birds include: Yellow-crowned Night-heron as they continue their expansion farther north, breeding Lazuli Buntings, Lawrence’ Goldfinch and Blue Grosbeaks in the spring and summer, the endangered Snowy Plovers (California) and Least Terns that breed on our beaches, the endangered Least Bell’s Vireo found in our riparian areas, and a whole host of rare birds that like to spend the winters in sunny southern California. Every season has great birds to find.

Cost: $450 for up to 6 people

Included: Park fees, parking, or day use passes. Scope, loaner binoculars, and ebird lists.

Transportation: Caravaning to locations

Meals: Not included. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks.

Frank the Bird Guy

Frank is an avid birdwatcher whose passion for birds has led him to serve on the board of both Ventura Audubon Society and Conejo Valley Audubon Society where he is currently President. He is the owner of the Wild Birds Unlimited store in Ventura as well as the coordinator and compiler for the Ventura Christmas Bird Count. During the pandemic, Frank began offering bird education classes online as “Frank the Bird Guy” and has shared the joy of birds with thousands worldwide.
