White-winged Dove in Ash Canyon

The White-winged Dove is common in Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary. It shows gray-brown plumage with white wing patches running from the shoulder down to the start of the primaries. The bill is dark and slightly curved at the tip. The eyes are bright orange with a blue orbital ring. This species feeds on seeds, fruit, and nectar and comes readily to feeders. It often perches in mesquite and desert shrubs. Its call is a rhythmic coo repeated in short series. White-winged Doves are most active in early morning and find shade in trees during the heat of the day.
