Ezekiel Jakub

Ezekiel “Zeke” grew up in rural western Massachusetts and was introduced to birdwatching at the age of 6 by his paternal Grandfather, Grandpa George. Becoming obsessed with birds throughout his childhood and an “American Birding Association” youth birder, Zeke was active in local, regional, national and international birding opportunities for kids. With his growing obsession, Zeke easily wandered into the world of Ornithology, publishing his first paper on corvid bioacoustics when he was a Junior in high school through the Intel International science fair competition. Zeke continued his undergraduate and graduate work focused on conservation, ornithology, and geography/GIS in neotropical Americas, specifically Central America. While working on his graduate studies, Zeke met his wife, and Jaguar Biologist, Melva Olmos at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute on Barro Colorado Island and the rest as they say … “is history”. Zeke and Melva have dedicated their lives to scientific research, conservation actions and community development throughout some of Panama’s most rural and remote regions. Zeke is a dual-citizen of Panama and has lived permanently in Panama since 2011. His home, Finca Radagast, is in Coclé province at 400m where he and his wife spend most of their free time.
