Location: The 4 hour tour will take place within a 15-35 minute drive of the Las Vegas downtown area.
Bird Species You May See: Verdin, Gambel’s Quail, Abert’s Towhee, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Crissal Thrasher, Leconte’s Thrasher, Burrowing Owls, Clark and Western Grebe, Cinnamon Teal, Greater Roadrunner
Las Vegas is an amazing location for birdwatching, over 450 bird species have been seen in the area. Las Vegas and the surrounding areas have diverse habitats including the vast Mojave Desert, Lake Mead, the Las Vegas Wash Wetlands and the scrub oak and juniper vegetation Red Rock Canyon. During the hot summer the high elevation forested Spring Mountains offer comfortable birding conditions with temperature 20-30 cooler than Las. Vegas. Las Vegas is also on a majority migration corridor during the spring and fall. In addition the plentiful vegetation and available water habitats draw in many unusual vagrant birds.
This tour starts around sunrise and is customized to meet the desired outcome of the client(s). We will visit one to three local birding hotspots. Typically, we see 50-70 bird species during a 4 hour tour. The Wild Sights will help you identify birds by sight and sound as well as provide general information about the areas we visit. You will receive a checklist of all the birds we see and hear as well as a route map of the locations we visit.
Transportation Details: The standard price does not include transportation, but we can provide round trip transportation from/to your place of lodging for an additional cost. Transportation is based on the Las Vegas Strip area, there may be additional costs outside of this area.
What’s Included: All entrance fees/permits are covered. We provide bottled water and snacks. We also carry a spotting scope for clients to use.
Add-Ons You Offer: We offer binocular rental. We can stop during the tour so you can purchase coffee/beverages and snacks.

A lifelong naturalist, I grew up in New England with a passion for wildlife, earning a BS in wildlife biology from the University of Maine. My career has spanned environmental research, adventure guiding, and instructing for NOLS, leading expeditions across 15 countries. As a photographer, filmmaker, and writer, my work has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, and more. In 2010, my wife and I launched an international adventure travel business, later settling in Las Vegas to focus on local guiding.
